Folks,
It has been a while since we had any kind of contest. No No, Iam not suggesting to start the one that we used to have. This is something different... I happened to see this in a different forum.. They call it the 'Post Production challenge'.
Here , one of the members hosts the Original RAW file and other members apply their PP skill on the RAW files and finaly share the PP steps and post the output, a Jpeg file..
I happened to see this here
I think this would be interesting enough and quite informative. We can learn and improve our Skills and learn new stuffs..
If members are fine, we can proceed with this idea and discuss how to go about it... _________________ Raghu

Happy to see some positive responses. Let us wait for couple more days. Looks like post festival, the attendence is less In the meantime, let me work on preparing some guidelines. Please do share the same, if you have something in mind. _________________ Raghu

one suggestion I can think from my side - nobody should use some prebuilt PS action which is downloaded from internet. These actions are definitely usable in your own photo production. But ofthen these actions dont reveal what they are doing inside. So as when we are supposed to provide what changes we made in PP - we wont be able to provide actual steps if we use actions. Or if the action is a free one then the author should provide the download link etc so that all others can atleast try and see how it works. I am not very sure how to frame my thought - so you all please think over and let us know. _________________ Cheers!!!

Folks, first of all, apologies for leaving this thread mid way. Last 2 weeks were a bit hectic with occasional visits to forums. So lets start off then !
Ok, lets set the guidelines first. I jotted some points or rather 'thinking aloud' here.
Share your inputs please
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. One member uploads an unprocessed original RAW.
a. Where to upload the original RAW file ?
b. How to open and process other camera RAW formats ? I mean , I use Canon DSLR, so I have a .CR2 file. How do Nikon or other brand owners open and process the file ? Should we convert to a common format that everyone can work on ? Tiff will be too large though.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.Proper credit to be given to the original photographer. you would not share this image in any forums other than SFF.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Perform any amount and type of post processing, but the original image should dominate.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Do mention the steps involved in the processing, if possible with the slider values whereever applicable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. If using a third party action or filters, do mention the details of the same
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Final processed image should be posted as jpeg with the longer side not more that 800 pix.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Lets open a new thread per RAW and post the final image in the respective thread
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. If we get good response, we can take members vote and rate the most popular final image. The winner can start the next thread.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. I hope it is ok to run this kind of thread in this forum. It would be good if admin/ mods give a green signal before we proceed _________________ Raghu

Hello Raghu, here are few points from my side.
1. We can leave the option to the photographer who gives the original image for the format. If it is RAW, it's o.k. If not, let it be JPEG at a reasonably higher resolution.
2. Admin/moderator can have access to FTP and they can help in uploading the original image, there is no other way (to my knowledge). The smaller size can be posted in the thread (without processing) meanwhile giving the FTP link to the higher sized image to download.
3. For various versions of RAW, I feel there is some restriction. Having the latest softwares may not be possible for all of us. Some input may be required from experienced members in this regard.
Just my few cents.

Use websites like esnips.com etc to upload the file.

Most people use Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) should be able to open almost all files from any Camera available today. CS2 version can be a problem though since ACR there does not support newer cameras.

I think it is OK. _________________ Ram
